A self-placing and self-compacting concrete ideally suited for the installation of floors and slabs.

When placed directly from the truck, it can flow very easily and can also be placed by a concrete pump, machine bucket or a dumper.  The use of a concrete rake will assist the movement of the material into corners.

When the concrete has been placed to the level required, there will be no need to trowel or power float the surface.  The surface will need to be finished off by the use of a dappling T bar.  Two passes of the bar will be required. On the first pass, the bar must be used with some effort to create “big waves” to level the surface.  The second pass at a right angle to the first should be done with at gentler effort to create the best surface finish.  During this pass, the bar should remain in contact with the surface of the concrete.

Once the finishing (dappling) process has been carried out, a proprietary curing membrane must be sprayed on to the surface of the concrete at a coverage rate of 1 litre for each 5 square metres of surface area.  This is essential to minimise the likelihood of plastic shrinkage cracking by evaporation of water from the surface of the concrete and also to reduce the likelihood of  surface dusting.

The surface of the concrete will be suitable for light foot traffic after 24 hours and can be used as an area for working after 72 hours.

With regard to bay sizes, saw jointing for contraction, will need to be considered in a manner similar to that of normal concrete.  Joints will be required at intervals equivalent to 40 times the depth of the concrete. Example a slab 100mm thick should have a joint every 4 metres.  Further saw jointing should be considered where there are changes in profile such as doorways and room corners.
